Where it started
I started noticing where the benches were
It crept up on me. The shorter way round the shops. Standing up and waiting a second before setting off. Sitting down on a wall and pretending to look at my phone.
By evening my calves felt heavy. And here's what I never said out loud: I'd started saying no to things. My world getting quietly smaller, one small no at a time.
Everyone said the same thing. "That's just your age, love."
It took me two years to stop accepting that. Legs get tired for lots of reasons — and sitting still all afternoon is one of them.
I ordered it expecting nothing.
I'd wasted money before. It didn't join the drawer — it's the only one still out on the side, and the only thing I've recommended to my friends. Three have bought one.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Seven things I never told anybody
Tick any that sound like you
✓
Heavy legs by evening
✓
Tight calves
✓
Stiff getting out of the chair
✓
Awake in the night with an ache
✓
Bed earlier than you'd like
Three or more? Read on.
So what is it?
A soft wrap you put round your calf for ten minutes
No wires, no pads, no app. You press one button and it does three gentle things at once — then stops by itself.
Every time your calf muscle moves, it pushes the blood back up your leg. That's why doctors call it the second heart — and why legs feel light after a walk and heavy after an afternoon in the chair.
🪑
Sitting still
The muscle isn't moving. Legs feel heavy.
🚶
Gentle movement
The muscle works. Legs feel light.
It wasn't the years. It was the stillness. That's what this ten minutes gives back.
It's the closest thing to somebody rubbing your legs for you
The problemNobody's hands are always available — and a cream or a cushion can't reach round a calf.
My husband used to rub my calves of an evening, until his hands got bad. This is the nearest thing I've found to that — and I don't have to ask anybody.
First you feel
The warmth getting in
LikeA warm hand on the sore bit.
Then
The kneading starts
LikeThumbs working up your calf.
Underneath it all
Your legs get a walk
LikeA light fizz. Not painful.
You feel it the first night. I don't trust anything that needs six weeks before you're allowed to judge it. I knew after one evening.
One button, and that's the manual. I've never once had to ring my son-in-law about it.
Ten minutes, in the chair you're already in. No plug, no app, nothing to set up.

Reason 03
By bedtime my legs don't feel so full and tight
The problemThat gripped, packed feeling builds all afternoon and follows you to bed.
This was the one I didn't expect. It isn't only the heaviness — it's that gripped, packed feeling that used to build up from about four o'clock and stay with me into the night.
Getting out of the chair. Those first few steps used to be the worst of my day. They're not any more.
By bedtime. My calves feel looser and less full than they did, so I'm not lying there rubbing my leg in the dark.
The next morning. I start the day feeling like I've had a proper rest, not like I've been fighting my legs all night.
“It's the standing up out of the chair that's changed most. I used to have to wait a moment before I trusted my legs.”

Reason 04
I can keep up with my granddaughter again
The problemYou become the one saying “you go on, I’ll catch you up.”
She's six and doesn't walk anywhere slowly. I used to spot a bench and say "you go on, I'll wait here" — and she'd look back at me. We did the whole park in June. She didn't notice anything had changed. That's the point.
The long way round — past the ducks, not straight to the bench.
Nobody looking back over their shoulder to see where you've got to.
You say yes to Saturday before you've worked out whether you can.
“A cupboard full of gadgets that did nothing. This is the only one that stayed out.”

Reason 07
It doesn't make you feel like an old woman
The problemMost things aimed at our age sit in the corner announcing that you've started needing help.
Things aimed at people my age look beige and clinical. This looks like decent kit — my granddaughter asked if it was for running. Nobody would know what it was for.
It looks like something a runner would own.
It stays out by the chair — nothing to be tucked away.
It sits by the lamp and nobody asks what it's for.
“It looks like something an athlete would own. Small thing, but it matters.”

Reason 08
I don't hand my money to strangers on the internet
The problemYou read about people my age losing money to a website, and you get careful.
What nearly stopped me wasn't the wrap. It was not knowing who I'd be sending my money to. So I looked the company up before ordering, just to see if anybody picked up. Somebody did.
For what it's worth: it's a proper registered company with an address you can look up, thousands of people have bought one, and they answer emails within a day. That was enough for me to stop worrying and just try it.
In plain terms: Calf Relief is a cordless wrap you put round your calf for about ten minutes. Gentle warmth, a soft massage feeling, and a light pulse. Legs feel warmer, looser and lighter. No wires, no pads, no app.
“Bought it for my wife and ended up ordering a second for myself.”

You're not trying to be twenty again.
You just want to still be downstairs when the film ends — and to say yes to Saturday without doing the sums first. Thirty nights to try it. It goes back if it isn't for you.
